Innocent Beginnings, Deadly Outcomes For Athletes Who Tempt Fate

Another man succumbs to the shiny trinket. Only this time the trinket packed heat, or so it is assumed. Regardless of who pulled the trigger of the gun that shot Steve McNair four times, the bullets were fired because of adultery. Four children lost their father because he chose to engage in behavior that was irresponsible. He lost his life, which had been a life of dreams coming true until a nightmare scenario unfolded in a condo in Nashville. Unfathomable? Hardly. World-class athlete or small-town plumber, it matters not. Those who cheat are way underestimating the fallout when the truth outs. And it always does.

Since McNair’s death many have spoken about his fearlessness on the field, his willingness to help those around him, and his philanthropic endeavors off the field. All will attest to his devotion to his children and his strong character. Many will be depressed, sad and angry that someone with so much to give was taken away by a woman who should have had no place in his world. A woman who had yet to grow up, lacked judgment and clearly was not stable. And, hopefully, some will pick up the phone or head to twitter (probably best not to do it in person these days) and end their own affairs of the bod and heart. Because we are here to tell you that every time something like this happens it raises the likelihood of it happening again. And the only way to avoid a fatal attraction is to never be attracted to the femme fatale in the first place.

Guys, you need to walk away from the shiny. Resist the urge to stir those adolescent feelings of omnipotence. Love triangles are complicated beyond measure. There are too many opportunities for things to get ugly. So, instead of seeing that young, adoring girl as a break from the ho-hum of adulthood, see her as the poster child for the perils of playing Russian Roulette.

But what if she’s your soul mate, you ask? Then start amicable divorce proceedings immediately after googling her. Should you find pictures of her wrapped up in the arms of another girl doing her best Gene Simmons impression, we are here to tell you that a soul mate she is not. Future porn star maybe, but not a soul mate. Lose the phone number and get back to your wife post haste.

No chance you’d find her in such a position? Eyes roll, pats you on your head. Speed dials your wife.

She’s 20 yrs old. I don’t know one guy who has anything in common with a 20 year old except that she can let him live like a 20 year old again. Going to bars, staying out late, goofing off. I’m a McNair fan, but I think he’s an idiot for cheating on his wife. Like you said, get divorced first. Be a man, not a college kid. Oldest story in the book…guy gets wrapped up with the wrong chick and she lays him out.
