Shaq-adonna…I May Not Sleep Well Tonight.

Shaq, Dancing with the Stars is salivating for you!
I’d go searching for a photo of Shaq’s ‘routine’ to include with this post, but I really don’t want to see that image again so close to bedtime. Shaq’s introduction during tonight’s NBA All-Star game was curious, at first. Why was he the only one going all Hannah Montana? Allen Iverson was complete business, and he is a starter in this year’s festivities. Dwyane Wade got a little man-dance from his mates to go along with that ever-present homage to Nelly below his left eye, but they were by no means the headlining act. Clearly Shaq-adonna had top billing yet took the stage with the roadies. Strange. Even without reflecting back on the burlesque-ishness of it all.
Kobe can have a field day with this one, and we’d all forget about that little rap Shaq forced on us.
It wasn’t making sense until I thought about how Shaq may be the emcee next year. Will he be back? Unlikely with the incredible talent the NBA has to offer us as of late. I’d swap Shaq for Charles Barkley on TNT in a half-nano-second. Or less. Alas, I’ll have to wait for his retirement for that dream to come true. In the mean time I’m going to take in what may be Shaqy’s last stand at the NBA’s weekend soiree.
Speaking of Sir Charles, I am really enjoying his absence. But more than that, I am really enjoying this All-Star celebration of basketball. This weekend has been pure fun, a bit of scene, awe-inducing athleticism, and joy at watching professional athletes celebrate the sport.
I’m going to get back to the game and will return in the morrow with a look back at a very entertaining weekend that delivers the All-Star goods. Well done NBA.
