Just Another Sunday in Football Paradise
After a weekend that was kicked off by the following - a Presidential Debate in which the candidates said practically next-to-nothing about what they would in fact do, a $700 million bailout package on the verge of pickpocketing us (with police looking on approvingly) and the death of a Fantoo Girl favorite, Paul Newman - a little escapism couldn’t hurt.
And it’s been just what the doctor ordered. The Phils clinch the NL East. The Mets are in need of another Heimlich manuever and the only spot still left open for MLB post-season play is between the Twins and the White Sox. Oh to be a fly on the wall for one of Ozzie Guillen’s pre-game pep talks…
Over on the gridiron, Favre connects on 6 TDs (his career-high and a Jets record) - even with Mangini shaking his head “no” on the sidelines the whole time. Not loving the retro Jets jerseys, but apparently they didn’t bother the Favre-Laveranues Coles connection.
Poor Arizona…but will we see Leinart anytime soon?
That’s like asking if the Bengals will win anytime soon. They are a mess. Job security in Cincinnati should be as iffy as that of Lane Kiffin.
And the Redskins taking one from Dallas? Oh my. How do they do it? Is it because Cowboys are afraid of Indians? Stunning. Way to go, Zorn.
Now we turn to week one of MLB playoffs, the NHL season is just around the corner and there is football as far as the eye can see. It’s a good time to be a sports fan.
But do take a moment to cue up Slap Shot in your VHS, DVD or whatever and honor the man who brought minor league hockey to life for moviegoers everywhere.
