Jersey Girls, Jersey Guys and Super Bowl Breakdown with The Girls!

Of course, as always happens on a Fantoo Girls podcast recording day, we emerge from the elaborate recording studios and a HUGE story is breaking. We will have plenty of reaction to the McNamee disclosure that he has bloody gauze pads and syringes with steroids and Clemens’ DNA on it - that’s physical evidence y’all - in the coming weeks. This story will not die, but the good name of Clemens might never survive. Even though you might question WHO WOULD KEEP such pieces of physical evidence for so long, there is no denying that 5 hours of possible lying to Congress could earn Clemens the Martha Stewart treatment. We think it’s profoundly sad. And there is nary a GM or Owner in the cross hairs…

But we had a short diversion from all this in Episode 106. The cheaters got punished, the good guys prevailed and Super Bowl XLII was a dream come true.

First, the pictures, courtesy of Jason Grosse…1st time in NYC history that a football teams has had a parade down the Canyon of Heroes… Go Strahan! Go Strahan!! We loved the ‘Stomp You Out’. Will he be back next year? We say Retire Now and go into broadcasting with the bling you brought to NYC (that Tiki could not).

Jersey Girls, Jersey Guys and Super Bowl Breakdown with The Girls!

Today The Girls are coming to you live from the new Golden State - the state of New Jersey - where apparently you can upset anyone with an undefeated record if your home turf (paint, court, rink, diamond, dart board) resides in the state from which all rock anthems hail. As if the spectacular NJ/NY Giants victory wasn’t enough, the Scarlet Knight Ladies of the Court (Rutgers) whipped the tails of UConn, taking a page right out of the New England Book of Sports Domination.

The tides down the shore are a changin’! We go from lobster rolls to Manhattan Clam Chowder in the blink of an eye. Super Bowl XLII will be one of few where the fans remember the loser as much as they remember the winner. And the Giants won in a very memorable fashion, so tune in to hear us break it down Fantoo-style. From the game to the commercials to the parade, we re-devour the entire experience. Because with once-in-a-lifetime events that’s what you’re supposed to do.

Did you notice Tom Brady shake Pat O’Brien’s hand before entering the tunnel after the pre-game warm-up?

Neither did we, but Bill Simmons of ESPN did, and that started the Free Fallin’ for him. While we agree, we saw the beginning of the end when Tom Brady and his friend ‘boot’ were showcased on TMZ…smack in between Britney’s manic meltdown and Lindsey Lohan’s “it’s only vodka” escapades in Manhattan.

Bam. Done. Right. Then. And. There.

TMZ = Your celebrity status prevents us from taking you seriously in your chosen profession. Toss in the arrogance of Bill Belichick (who we have renamed BeliJACK) and his couture cherry red hoodie and you get a perfect storm that the Giants weathered in shorts and flip-flops.

That said, we love the players on the Patriots and blame the selfish and petulant nature of their leader for this most punishing Maverick-esque loss.

We also hand out our individual awards for best commercial, but quite frankly nothing will ever top Robin’s description of the Hummer commercial from last year. Beautiful, baby. And somewhat horrifying at the same time. Just the way we like it. We manage to sneak in a look at Peter Forsberg (he’s aiming for a return to the NHL) and Rick Tocchet (he’s aiming to not get busted for illegal gambling again), and our favorite ‘RETIRE! Already’ target, Mr. Shaq. Let us state for the record: The world of crime needs a super hero more than a blistering fast NBA west team needs a human wall. Just do it, as Kobe would say.

And in this week’s IT HAS TO BE SAID, we discuss the difference between Super and Not Open. So Patriots fans, grab your hankie. Giants fans, grab your fist-full of parade confetti (we know you took some home with you). And all you football addicts, grab a calendar to mark off the days to the NFL Combine - it’s time to talk sports with The Girls!
